As members of the United States Coast Guard, Jon and Sarah met while stationed in Seattle. They were friends for the first year, spending a lot of time talking and really getting to know each other before they even began dating.
They found they had much in common, and over time their bond grew and deepened, becoming even stronger during the year that Sarah was stationed in Florida and theirs was a long-distance relationship. They soon recognized they wanted to spend the rest of their lives together.
So they had a small courthouse wedding in early 2013, and began planning a larger celebration to include their family and friends. And a year and a half later, on a hot summer day in Winters, California, Jon and Sarah spoke their vows, exchanged rings, and were formally united as Husband and Wife.
To honor their shared Christian faith, Jon and Sarah included a passage from the New Testament, Colossians 3:12-19, wherein the Apostle Paul speaks of living a Christ-like life in the world and, specifically, in marriage.
… Wives, submit yourselves unto your own husbands, as it is fit in the Lord.
Husbands, love your wives ….
Promising to love each other “in good times and in bad, with all that you have to give and in every way that you know how, completely and forever,” and exchanging rings as a reminder of the precious treasure they have in each other, Jon and Sarah sealed their vows with a kiss, accompanied by the applause of dear friends and family!
They chose the beautiful Inn at Park Winters as their place of celebration. The spacious grounds and country ambiance was the perfect setting for a formal ceremony in front of the koi pond,
followed by a casual yet elegant reception under the trees. Although the temperature neared 100° at ceremony time, a cool, pleasant evening breeze made for perfect weather during dinner and dancing.
Congratulations, Jon and Sarah!
“By your lives together and by your words today in this ceremony of the heart, you are truly married. May you live happily in each other’s company forever and may you be blessed.”
