I had the honor of conducting a celebration of life service, and received the gift of a surprise reunion with one of my wedding couples from many years ago!
In the spring of 2004 I was contacted by Michael and Tracy, who asked me to perform their wedding ceremony in September at the Yuba City Church of the Nazarene.
We truly enjoyed getting to know each other during the planning and ceremony-writing process, and after the wedding we vowed to stay in touch.
I saw them again in May of 2006 when I officiated the wedding of Tracy’s Aunt Ingrid and her beloved Loren. (Who are still happily married, by the way!)
At that time Michael and Tracy told me they were hoping to start a family, and a few months later I received the invitation to attend a baby shower in honor of the upcoming birth of their little girl!
Katy was born in early March of 2007, and Michael and Tracy brought her to meet me when she was just 8 days old. Such a precious and beloved little girl; I felt so honored to be one of the first to meet her!
We exchanged holiday cards that year, but over time our connection was lost. I periodically checked Facebook to see if I might catch a glimpse of this sweet family, but never found them.
A Surprise Reunion!
Yesterday afternoon I conducted a celebration of life service at Sylvan Cemetery in Citrus Heights.
As the service concluded I was approached by one of the guests, who said, “You might not remember me, but I believe you performed our wedding ceremony in Yuba City.”
My eyes lit up because I knew it was Michael! And standing next to him was his beautiful daughter – who turns 13 this weekend! – and his sweet wife Tracy!
I was SO delighted to reconnect with this family, to see how well they are doing, and to exchange contact information so we can truly stay in touch!
What a serendipitous blessing, to receive this gift of reunion at this celebration of life!
